Millet Clarins’ favourite coffee shop in Bayonne-Anglet-Biarritz

Location: 18 Avenue des Dauphins, Chambre d’amour, 64600 Anglet, France

In this day and age, we know how fortunate we are to be able to travel and go on culinary adventures.

Anyway, a couple of my friends and I were in Paris for a few days. After exploring every bit that interested us in the ‘romantic city’, we decided to head towards the Anglet commune — which is part of the Bayonne-Anglet-Biarritz (B.A.B.) urban area.

It may seem like a strange choice, but one of my friends, Virginie, actually traces her maternal roots there. Also, we were going to Barcelona in a couple of days, and we could go from there. We headed to Anglet via subway, inter-city rail and bus. All in all, it was a 5-hour trip from Paris to Anglet. We arrived at around 10 p.m. and had a light dinner at Virginie’s aunt’s place before going to sleep.

The next day, Virginie’s cousin drove us around the area in the early afternoon, and we somehow ended up at P’tea Coffee — just because it had a cute, dainty name.

It’s in a seaside location, although the entrance opens to the street. From the façade, the café looks very welcoming with the unpretentious homey décor, wooden tables and chairs, and the smell of freshly baked breads and cakes filled the air.

We all ordered their organic Gaïa tea, which was soothing and refreshing. But we also wanted coffee, so I ordered a cappuccino, Virginie got a hot chocolate, and her cousin and our other friend ordered café lattes. There’s alfresco seating, but we chose a comfy couch near the entrance.

Aside from our tea and coffees, we also ordered their ‘poke bowl from the sea’ (with marinated tuna), which we all happily shared. Then I had their chicken plate, whilst the others got the pulled pork hot sandwich, bibimbap (a Korean rice dish), hotdog and chilli beef hot sandwich.

Our coffees smelled and tasted wonderful! Virginie’s hot chocolate had tiny marshmallows in it that melted quite fast. We didn’t wait too long before they served our food. I wanted to have a look at their bookstore, but we were so hungry that we started eating the moment our food arrived.

Everyone looked happy, so I guess the others enjoyed their sandwiches and rice as much as I enjoyed my chicken with potatoes.

We still had room for dessert, so we ordered their beurre de cacahuete chocolat or peanut butter chocolate brownies — freshly baked and still warm!

While enjoying our coffees and brownies, we discussed how we would best spend our time there and how long we’d stay. We decided that three days would be enough to do a bit of exploring and eating in Anglet.

I noticed people with pets enjoying coffee outside, so I assumed it’s a pet-friendly establishment. All in all, P’tea Coffee is a great place if you want a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere. Everyone was very friendly and courteous, and we really enjoyed our tea, hot cocoa, coffees (they have premium and organic coffee) and food.

If I ever get a chance to go back to Anglet with my friends someday, I’ll surely want to go back to P’tea Coffee.
